Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles , Based on the original NES game by Konami. Commodore 64 conversion by Unlimited Software and published by Konami under the Ultra Software label in 1990 for the US market.

"Obsessed by revenge, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are out to rescue lovely April O'Neil who's been captured by Shredder, a maniac more menacing than an army of mind altered Bruce Lees. But if they are to succeed, you must command the role of each turtle (one at a time, of course), rumbling through six New York territories patrolled by Ninjutsu Warriors, blood descendants of the deadly Foot Clan. Along the way, you'll encounter Mouser infested sewers, criminally polluted rivers and villainous streets run by the terrorist team of Beebop and Rocksteady.

To overcome these inhumain hazards, utilize your reptillian brain and map out strategies that will help you locate secret sewer passages. Also be sure to alternate your turtle identity throughout the mission, matching each turtle's strengths with those of the ever changing enemy. So grab your nunchukus and prepare to put yourself in someone else's shell. Because in this to-the-death adventure, you'll control every leap, chop, slice and dice, until you knock heads with Shredder and either splatter him senseless or get yourself turned into turtle soup."

This is the US 2 disk (4 sides) initial release of the game. It contains some extra levels, scenes, fights and gfx not contained in the pal single tape/disk release which has a much better loading system and some extra music. This version also contains many annoying game breaking bugs and gameplay issues that were later fixed. It makes for a very difficult game to get through and the poor loading system doesn't help at all with long gaps between screens. I have cut out some of the blank screens during loading between screens for sanity. The original game recording before editing was 1h8m.

There's nothing good I can say about this game. I'd advise to go play the pal release. Among the many issues include enemy sprites that move way to fast and some don't even appear if many are on screen. The difficulty is high with the enemy taking away a lot of energy when they hit you and it can take many hits to kill them. The hit detection is a mess and becomes a real problem when there are projectiles on screen as well. A huge issue especially near the end of the game is when the enemy is on screen before you when climbing a ladder, so if you have little energy you are instantly killed!!

A potentially game breaking issue is when using the van. Any barricades destroyed before entering a building will reappear when you get back! This can be a huge issue depending which side you left the van on. At the start of level 3, there is a walkway you need to jump across to collect missiles for the van. This is too high to jump up to and you cant simply walk the gap. This almost ended the longplay but I found timing the walk to coincide with walking over the enemy will get me across. Surly the game is not meant to be like this. The underwater section is a nightmare. The seaweed does far too much damage as well as the spinning spike strip running too fast. It seems the developers knew this by making you invincible through the level. You do have to sacrifice a turtle though so choose one with low energy before going in.

Overall the game is quite glitchy and feels like it can bomb out at any moment. I didn't show every sewer/room as it was too risky with the crazy enemy damage output and I might not have had enough energy or turtles to complete the game.

Some special notes. The Commodore key is used to get in/out of the van in this version. Ctrl + S can be used to save progress at any time. The Fire button needs to be long pressed to Jump. This version also has a Highscore table. -
