Hello one and all.
A trip down to Glenorchy with Hamish and Charlie, filming some bushcraft, a worm whisperer, debris shelter and experimenting with different types of native materials for tinder.
The advantage of using a ferodium rod and tinder to light fire in a survival situation, is having a tool that works even when wet. Silver Birch bark works best, but our native birch ( Kamahi ) doesnt contain enough natural tar/oils in it. Tanekaha ( celery Pine ) Mountain Toa Toa or Manaoa ( Silver pine ) are both great woods if you can find them
Its a great skill to have and master and may save a life someday. Its also very enjoyable lighting a fire in this way.
