Have you ever wondered how filament for your 3D printer is made? Well we have, so we sent Andy out to NatureWorks in Blair, Nebraska to tour the facility where our Inland filament gets its start! This the the first full scale PLA facility and the largest in the world!
At the facility Andy learns about how they start with corn and then through the milling process they separate the starch and turn it into lactic acid to turn that into the PLA pellets that are packaged and then shipped to another facility to be processed into the spools of filament that you purchase at Micro Center.
This was a super interesting visit to learn more about the filament creating process. Let us know what you think about this process and if you want to see more videos like this from Micro Center.
Make sure to stay tuned for the next video of this series when we see how these pellets are turned into colored filament.
Check out Part 2 of this series where Andy heads to the factory in China where they convert these pellets into spools of filament! • Touring a 3D Printing Filament Factory | M...
