Previously called Hillcroft (after its main artery, Hillcroft Avenue) the triangular-shaped Mahatma Gandhi District is called Little India.

It is known for its variety of Indian and Pakistani eateries and merchants, and a diverse South Asian community. Locals and visitors frequent lunch buffets serving authentic masalas and curries, and shop for everything from gold jewelry and silk saris to Bollywood videos and traditional sweets.
