Why do we need to change aquarium water?

We need to change Aquarium water because Aquarium is a small covered area where fish poop and uneaten food are stored and this helps In creating ammonia in your tank. Though the filter is installed in the tank still its capacity is also limited after a certain period of time the filter stops working. And excess ammonia is harmful to fish health. So, to keep your fish healthy water change is a must.

When do we need to do a water change?

It depends on the size of the aquarium and the bio load in it. If your aquarium is of large size, obviously then it has better filtration installed in it and if there are only a few fishes in it then obviously the bioload is not too heavy so it does not require frequent water change but if you have a small aquarium then the filtration installed in it is also of small size whose capacity is also limited and if the aquarium has a lot of fishes then its bioload is heavy. So, the aquarium needs weekly water changes. So, water change depends on bioload and the filtration used in the aquarium.

How much water to change?

if you do water change weekly then 30 percent water change is well and good and if you do a water change after every 15 days then change 40 to 50 percent water. Your motto to change water is to reduce the ammonia build-up in your tank. Use good filtration media in your filter which helps in building up beneficial bacterial in your aquarium water that reduces ammonia build-up in your tank.

How to change Aquarium water?

Switch off all the accessories ( heater, filter, etc) in your tank 10 minutes before water change. Take out all the decorative items in your tank. If you have gravels or sand in your tank, then move the gravel or sand with a syphoon pipe so that the wastes submerged under the gravels or sand come out and then take out the water from the bottom of your tank and not from the surface. Clean all the accessories, decorative items, and filter media with the water taken out from the tank and not with any freshwater.
Install the heater and filter again along with the decorative items in your tank. Add aquarium salt or rock salt, stress heal medicine, and an anti-itch medicine after adding new water.
Due to water change, there is a fluctuation in aquarium water temperature, so try to change the water in sunny weather so fish doesn't get stressed due to temperature fluctuation. Try to avoid the rainy or bad weather the day on which you change the water.
Also, keep in mind that the temperature in aquarium water and the fresh water you want to add must be near about the same otherwise the fish will get a temperature shock. Store the water beforehand so that the water temperature will be the same as room temperature. Measure water temperature with the thermometer and if there is a 5,6-degree difference in water temperature between the aquarium water and stored freshwater then add a bit of hot water with the fresh water to bring the water temperature same with aquarium water. The temperature of freshwater and aquarium water must be the same. Don't forget to add anti-chlorine to the freshwater.
