As the prelude to Italy 1990, England organized a friendly with Uruguay, and the game was nothing short of extraordinary.

Uruguay made a brilliant start by scoring a sensational goal that left the fans at Wembley speechless. Ostolaza executed a counter-attack to perfection, and with an exceptional header, he beat Peter Shilton.

However, Bobby Robson's England team was determined to show their class.

Stuart Pearce sent in a cross from the left, and although it appeared harmless, John Barnes showed his skill by controlling the ball with his chest and unleashing a superb left-footed half-volley that nestled into the top corner.

Despite England's response, Uruguay regained their lead ten minutes later. Perdomo's free-kick caught Shilton off-guard, and the ball crept in at his near post. The match ended 2-1, and Robson had a lot to think about before the Euros.
