Many husbands believe that once seven years of marriage have passed, their wife can no longer accuse them of dowry harassment or cruelty. But that’s a complete myth.
There is no legal bar stopping a woman from filing a complaint even after 10, 20, or 30 years of marriage. The confusion arises from Section 304B of the IPC and Section 113B of the Evidence Act, which deal specifically with dowry deaths within seven years of marriage, not with other forms of cruelty or harassment.
So, if a marriage has lasted more than seven years, it doesn’t mean the husband is immune from legal action. The real distinction lies in the nature of the allegation, not in the duration of the marriage.
