Did Trump Just Hand Canada Tech Jobs With New $100k H-1B Visa Rule?

The Trump administration has just raised the cost of an H1B visa to a shocking $100,000. This move is being sold as a way to give jobs back to US citizens, but the reality is very different. Tech companies are not going to pay $100k per worker. Instead, they’ll simply move their foreign talent into offices in Canada, Europe, or Asia, anywhere but the United States.
Canada is already benefiting from this shift. Big tech firms like Microsoft, Amazon, and Google have offices in Canadian cities, and relocating talent north of the border is far easier than dealing with constant US policy changes. With the ongoing issues of border security, ICE raids, and harassment from CBP agents, many highly skilled workers don’t even want to enter the United States anymore. Canadians also refuse to support the US because of the 51st state rhetoric, annexation threats, and safety concerns.
This $100k visa rule is another self inflicted wound for the US economy, adding to tariffs, tourism decline, and the ongoing boycott. Meanwhile, Canada and allied nations are stepping up as safer, more reliable destinations for trade and talent.
The bigger picture is clear: Canada news continues to show the United States heading toward economic decline. Between the rise of tariffs, collapsing tourism numbers, travel advisories, and citizens being denied entry at the border, international trust in the US is fading fast. The 51st state rhetoric and annexation threats have only pushed Canada to move on, while US tourism collapse and political instability make the boycott stronger every day.
