Trees, bushes, greenery and gardens - these are beautiful parts of sketches, that require often very different techniques and colours from the urban or architectural scenes around them.

What I'm going to show you in this video is a three step approach to sketching simple, but effective trees, in your urban sketches.

It's important to have techniques that are flexible, and easy to use in a number of situations. Using these three little steps should give you just that framework to move forward, and adapt to your own style and the sketching, drawing and painting you enjoy most.

These simple urban sketching techniques are based on ink and watercolour, or line and wash techniques, which are my favourite ways to quickly capture urban scenes.

The exact colours aren't important, but thinking about shape, shadows and having some sense of colour can really elevated your tree sketching! And these are the exact topics that we'll be discussing today!
