When the world of the motion picture began to take off the world of movie theaters took off with it. The 1910s marked the beginning of the heyday of what was known as the "movie palace", which was essentially an ornate, beautiful, often themed structure capable of holding a massive audience of at least 1,000 people. Portland, Oregon's downtown area had several theaters like this, all built in a period of less than 20 years.
In this film I take you to the locations where these palaces once stood as well as presenting their history as well as several elements of early movie and movie theater history. This is only part one in what will be at least three videos.
