How to crochet the Rice Stitch
The Rice Stitch has a beautifully woven look and creates a thick, dense texture. It’s worked by repeating a single row, which makes it easy to memorize. To crochet this stitch, it’s recommended that you’re already comfortable with double crochet stitches. In the video, I’ll show you how to crochet post stitches, which are key to this technique. The Rice stitch is also known as the Tight Weave Stitch.

Row 3 is worked the same as row 2, though it may look slightly different. If you’re not yet familiar with post stitches, it can be helpful to watch row 3 in the video as well. Otherwise, you simply keep repeating row 2. To start the Rice Stitch, chain a multiple of 2 plus 1.
