ALASKAN CRUISE | VLOG | ROAD TRIP TO EMERALD LAKE IN SKAGWAY ALASKA

Welcome back or welcome if this is your first time! My name is Paige and in today’s video, I wanted to show you the epic road trip you’ve probably never heard of!

In June 2025, my family and I embarked on an Alaskan cruise and during our day in Skagway, we decided to rent a car and road trip up to Emerald Lake in Canada! Don’t worry, all you need to bring with you in order to cross the border is your passport, along with anyone else’s passport who is in the car with you.

We rented our car through Avis in Skagway, about a 5-10 minute walk from the port right in the town. There are several car rental companies in town, but I still recommend reserving your car around 3 months out because we saw SO many people renting cars so there is a limited supply.

You just need to gas up before you return the car and there is a gas station across from the Avis rental shack (no literally it’s a blue shack).

These were the main highlights of our day. If you are driving straight to Emerald Lake, it takes around 1.5–2 hours. I recommend starting at Tutshi like we did to beat the crowds and hit other spots along the way back, when the initial swarm of people has subsided. The road to Emerald Lake is literally a straight shot so you shouldn’t have any issues navigating!

We had a lot of random stops along the way so I didn’t do a great job of recording what miles we stopped at but I did note the actually names of the places we went to that weren’t random road pull offs. Pulling off to the side of the road to admire the views or walk around is very normal so don’t be scared to explore!
