Procession for fallen Florida Sergeant Terri Sweeting-Mashkow killed in the line of duty

Indian River County is saying its final goodbye Tuesday to Sgt. Terri Sweeting-Mashkow, the longtime deputy killed in the line of duty earlier this month. A memorial service begins at 11 a.m. at Corporate Air Inc. on North Drive in Vero Beach, followed by a procession and burial at Crestlawn Cemetery. Sweeting-Mashkow was shot and killed while serving an eviction call 11 days ago.

She served 25 years with the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office and was posthumously promoted to sergeant.

Loved ones describe her as a devoted law enforcement officer, a mother, a wife, and a woman who poured her heart into helping others on and off duty.

“She was an amazing mother she put her whole heart and soul into her job,” said her cousin, Joan Bennett.

Sheriff Eric Flowers, who worked alongside Sweeting-Mashkow for his entire career, said the department is grieving the loss deeply. “Our team will feel this forever. Terry was an amazing deputy with a beautiful heart. I’m absolutely heartbroken,” said Sheriff Flowers.
