Last time I tried this, I found out that silicone is too runny to get a thick coat on vertical features, leading to a useless mold and hilariously malformed cast parts.
So I'm doing it again for the back half of the speaker shell. This time, I am adding thickener to the silicone, waiting until it is ready to set up, then scrambling to get it on the mold before it kicks off in the cup.
It takes a lot of layers to build up more thickness. I spent a week coating this with two gallons of silicone.
Next, it will get coated with fiberglass. I might try epoxy instead of polyester resin even though it won't dissolve the binder in chopped strand mat, making it more difficult to conform to compound curves. There is a possibility that polyester resin may effect the silicone, so using something different might help.
