We believe in a core purpose which is the essence for our existence, why we exist, our reason for being. Everybody in our Calo programs knows our core purpose. Calo's reason for being is to profoundly change lives and create joy. What I love the most about Calo and all of our programs is why the people that are here are really here. We all feel like we're on a deep mission. We're on a mission because we believe that the majority of addiction, substance abuse, mental health, and behavioral issues our country is dealing with right now have to do, at the root, with unresolved early emotional traumas. The second part of Calo's core purpose is to create joy. The way we create Joy's by focusing on the relationship. Joy is very different from happiness. You can have happiness pursuing things that fulfill just you. Whereas joy, in our mind, is the product of a shared experience and can only really come about by putting others first. Joy is more of a way of being. A state as opposed to happiness that can be fleeting and we know that relationship is the ultimate healer. That relationship can heal and change brains. That relationship can heal and change nervous systems. That relationship can cure addiction. That relationship can cure anxiety. We're all here on a mission because we have to be able to provide these services to all of these families that need it. We're on a mission to profoundly change lives to create joy and we're on a mission to reach our vision our. Our vision is to become to childhood trauma what st. Jude's is to childhood cancer and to work with a team towards something that's much bigger than all of us together. To work towards something where we're profoundly changing lives where we're creating joy.

Calo (“kay-low”) Program is a behavioral and mental health provider specialized in healing the effects of complex developmental trauma. Calo is comprised of Calo Teens and Calo Preteens– both residential programs located in Lake Ozark, MO predominately serving adoptive families, New Vision Wilderness (“NVW”), an outdoor behavioral health program in Oregon, Wisconsin and North Carolina, Calo Young Adults, a transitional living program in Winchester, VA, and Embark by Calo, a therapeutic workshop and family intensive program for those reeling from issues of trauma, attachment and adoption.
