To celebrate 40 seasons of jazz, rhythm, and movement, we’re sitting down with the visionaries who started it all.

In this special three-part series, we spoke with DJD Co-Founders Vicki Adams Willis (our current Founder in Residence), Michèle Moss, and Hannah Stilwell to reflect on the early days, the spark that ignited this company, and the stories that shaped DJD’s roots.

Their passion laid the foundation for what has grown into one of Canada’s only professional jazz dance companies. A vibrant hub of creativity, community, and movement. Since those early days in 1984, DJD has become a driving force in Canada’s dance scene, creating over 70 original productions, building a landmark dance centre, and inspiring thousands through performance, outreach, and education.

🎟 Reminiscing in Tempo, our 40th anniversary show, runs April 24–May 11 at the DJD Dance Centre. This high-energy retrospective features audience favourites, bluesy grooves, signature pieces, and live music led by longtime DJD collaborator Kristian Alexandrov.
