When to suspect CPD

Cephalopelvic disproportion refers to a discrepancy between the size of the maternal pelvis & that of the fetal head. The term is very relative. For a particular woman & her baby, it is the during the journey of the fetal head through the maternal pelvis, that this relationship is ultimately put to test, they say “head is the best pelvimeter”. Clinical clues pointing towards a possible CPD arise during the course of labor, when despite good uterine contractions, the head fails to get engaged or undergo internal rotation. This can ultimately lead to slow or arrest in progress of labor.
