Water Pie | Great depression cooking for our great recession

The best way to learn how to deal with our current recession is to look back at the great depression for cooking tips but I'm not sure how 'water pie' is going to work.

Pie crust (using lard)
Ingredients
1½ cups all purpose flour 180g
1 pinch salt
½ cup lard 102g
3 to 4 Tablespoons cold water

Recipe
1) Stir together flour and salt
2) cut lard in until you have a crumbly mixture
3) add just enough water to make it come together
4) pat into a flat disk then chill for 30min in the fridge covered in plastic
5) roll into a thin circle and fit into your pie pan
6) put back into the fridge for 15min while you prep the rest of the pie filling


Water Pie
Ingredients

1 9-inch deep-dish pie crust, unbaked
1 1/2 cups water
4 tablespoons all-purpose flour 30g
1 cup sugar 200g
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
5 tablespoons butter, cut into 5 pieces 70g (14g chunks)

Recipe
1) 400f oven
2) Pour water into pie crust
3) in a small bowl stir together flour and sugar then sprinkle evenly over crust DO NOT STIR
4) Drizzle vanilla over the water
5) place pats of button on top
6) Bake at 400f for 30min reduce to 375 and cover the sides of crust if needed to prevent burning and cook for an additional 30min
7) Pie will be watery out of the oven but will gel as it cools. Allow to cool completely then cover and place in fridge before cutting
