👉Why don’t we have good evidence to show that HRT is safe after breast cancer?
Despite international guidelines, some menopause specialists believe HRT is safe for some women after breast cancer based on the data presented by Dr Bluming in his book ‘Estrogen Matters’ and a recent article in The Cancer Journal
I’ve read the book. He quotes one trial 3 times to prove that HRT is safe. It was behind a paywall but if it was that important to Dr Bluming’s case for HRT, I paid for a copy.
Guess what - it’s not even about HRT. It’s a trial that’s 50 years old comparing tamoxifen against high dose oestrogen for the treatment of breast cancer. This is before we knew how tamoxifen works and before it was licensed to treat breast cancer.
HRT isn’t mentioned once in the paper. And the trial had a lot of flaws. I’ve listed them all so you can follow my chain of thought.
I don’t see how anyone could use this study to prove that HRT might be safe after breast cancer.
