1996 - 2002 GM Truck 6.5L Turbo Diesel Fuel Lift Pump Replacement (Chevy & GMC)

This video is about replacing the 6.5L diesel engine fuel lift pump on GM full size old body style (OBS) trucks from Chevrolet and GMC. In this scenario the vehicle was operating fine, until the fuel filter was replaced, at which point the lift pump is discovered to be defective during bleeding air from the new filter. What happens in this scenario is the Injection Pump itself is able to maintain suction in the absence of the lift pump operation, until the line has air added such as when changing the fuel filter. Such a problem can go undetected for months. You do not have to bleed the water in the brass fuel petcock at the front for this particular kind of scenario, just the fuel filter bleed is sufficient to restore normal operation after replacement of the defective lift pump.

Illustrated using a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban K1500 LT, but the approach and process would be the same for 2002, 2001, 2000, 1998, 1997 and 1996 models. Not the same but similar enough for 1995 1994 and 1993 models. Applicable to Suburban, Silverado, Sierra, Cheyenne, W/T, Tahoe, Yukon models across Chevrolet, GMC, and Holden.
