Mbombela — The city of Mbombela went abuzz this past weekend as bikers from across South Africa and neighbouring countries gathered for the much-anticipated annual Sun Riders MCC Rally, a celebration of biking culture, unity, and giving back to the community.
This year’s event carried a notable charitable focus, with humanitarian organization Gift of the Givers proudly supporting the rally’s charity component. Their involvement underscores the growing spirit of social responsibility within South Africa’s biking community, as clubs increasingly use their platforms to make meaningful impact beyond the open road.
Another major highlight of the day was the address by Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Mr. Jackie Macie, who joined the rally to engage directly with the motorcycling community. In his remarks, MEC Macie praised the bikers for their enthusiasm and responsible behaviour so far.
“We want all bikers and motorists to return safely to their destinations,” said MEC Macie. “We all need to understand that roads are shared spaces. There should be more tolerance and patience among all road users so that we can all be safe.”
Beyond safety, MEC Macie acknowledged the economic benefits that rallies such as this bring to the province. Local guesthouses and hotels have reported full bookings, and food vendors across the city are seeing increased business. The rally has become a key fixture in the region’s tourism calendar, offering a welcome financial boost to Mbombela and surrounding areas.
As celebrations continue through the weekend, Sun Riders MCC has once again proven its ability to host a well-organized, impactful event that unites bikers in celebration and civic responsibility. With cold winter temperatures settling in, the club has ensured comfort for all attendees with the provision of firewood and communal warmth.
The 2025 edition of the rally stands as another successful chapter in the club’s journey—blending passion for motorcycles with a deep commitment to safety, unity, and social good. The theme was Arabic, and there was also a huge kid's playing area with jumping castles making the event family friendly.
Here’s to safe riding, strong community ties, and the enduring spirit of brotherhood on two wheels.
