First witness testifies through tears at trial of former North Kingstown basketball coach

Testifying through tears, a former North Kingstown High School student athlete was the first to take the stand Monday in the trial of former basketball coach Aaron Thomas.

"It brought me to the lowest of lows," the former student, whom the judge asked not to be identified, said. "If some people didn’t pick up the phone I probably wouldn’t be here right now. It has been just the hardest thing to go through and deal with for what was supposed to be four years of my life I really looked forward to."

Thomas pleaded not guilty to one count of second-degree child molestation and one count of sexual assault.

He's accused of performing body fat tests on student athletes -- sometimes while they were naked -- for decades, but prosecutors say because of the statue of limitations only two charges were able to be filed.
