Embora o edifício já tivesse sofrido outros acidentes no passado, esse incêndio foi considerado o pior desastre do templo desde sua construção, ao ficar severamente danificado. Motivo pelo qual a Catedral ficou fechada ao público por cinco anos até sua reabertura oficial em 7 de dezembro de 2024.
