Defying Gravity in ASL

I performed this song at an event in NYC called, My Whitelist Cabaret.

Imagine if ANYONE could be cast for ANY ROLES... not just "typical casting" of a person who is white and non-disabled.

For me, as a Deaf actress, I'm always sharing my role with my voice actress (which I love developing a relationship with, creating the role together and lending me her voice) but I've noticed...

People kept asking me questions about how the voice actress has "helped" me in any areas... the only reason why Deaf actors/actresses have voice actors/actresses is because of YOU, the audience members that don't know ASL.

That's ok! I completely get it.

BUT NOW IMAGINE THIS - a full musical production with Deaf actors/actresses... WITHOUT VOCALISTS!? Crazy?

Not really.

I just proved it. I did the song without a vocalist and clearly... it can be done. IT WILL BE DONE!

SOMEDAY... SOMEDAY I'LL BE IN THS SKY... DIRECTING A MUSICAL WITH NO VOCALISTS!

It can be done. Working with band members, musical directors... such a beautiful moment. Time for something new. Something raw.

Thus I give you this... DEFYING GRAVITY IN ASL!

The role of Elphaba from WICKED is my dream role and I hope someday to finally play her.
