Close Look At Super Elevated Railroad Track. This video shows Norfolk Southern trains going around the curves on this track at a railroad crossing in Walton, Kentucky, USA. I did a little research on super elevated curves and you will hear me explaining it in detail between the trains. I also show Amtrak trains on super elevated tracks in Bird-In-Hand, Pennsylvania. I filmed those trains with a group of railfans and we see the track up close. We were using the Amtrak "Track A Train" to know when the trains were coming. This is a very good app that is up to date within a few minutes. I have seen it with mistakes and sometimes the app is down. I always use it when filming Amtrak.
Check out the Norfolk Southern with the slug locomotive! It is the second train in the video. The slug is a locomotive without a cab and is controlled by another locomotive. This slug is an EMD RPU6D built on a newly constructed frame in March of 2016. This unit is equipped with EMD Flexicoil HT-C trucks, equipped with an electric parking brake, equipped with CCB 26 electronic air braking system and is equipped with D77 traction motors. Designed for operation with NS EMD SD40-2 master units 6177-6206 and 6210 series SD33ECO master units. NS has 7 of these slugs with 5 of them in storage so this was a very rare catch.
This video also shows a coal train going around the curve at Locust Street. There are not many coal trains left on this line and I can't remember when the last time was that I saw one here. We also have a CSX auto racks train on its way to Louisville, Kentucky from Cincinnati. That train did street running in LaGrange just a few hours after it passed me.
