Woodturning an eccentric goblet / candlestick. Crankshaft Camshaft.

Here you will see me take a section of an old mahogany handrail and turn it on the woodturning lathe into an eccentric (multi-axis, off-centre) decorative goblet / candlestick.

This shape was achieved by turning the piece on three separate axis.
I have attempted this before by using three holes in the base for the worm screw however, I found that the holes, due to there size (8mm) had to be too far apart and the knock on effect of this was the 'coins' where too staggered, the stem became thin and brittle and it snapped.
This time I only used 2 holes for the left and right positions and my 4 jaw chuck for the true centre, this allowed for the off-centre positions to be closer together than I had before.

Going forward, for the next one I will turn a waste piece of wood as a temporary lid for the goblet so I can use the tailstock while turning the entire piece. This will reduce the vibration and support the piece and most importantly, make it safer. On that note, during all of my turning I am wearing a full-face safety mask.
