To earn his Gold CREST Award, 17-year-old student Tom designed and built device that is worn on the forearm and wrist and, using muscles sensors, machine learning and other technologies, translates British Sign Language into written words and audio.
Tom was inspired by a relative with cerebral palsy to think about why inclusive communication is so important, and how technology can be used to facilitate better quality of life.
