Hanksville, Utah | Swingarm City, Moonscape, and Long Dong Silver

Exploring Hanksville, Utah — foggy desert landscapes during our four-week holiday road trip.

This video covers our time around Hanksville, Utah during the same four-week family trip over the Christmas and New Year holidays. We stayed at *Goblin Valley State Park**, which worked well for Goblin Valley itself. If we were to do it again, we’d likely split our stay — a couple nights at Goblin Valley, then base closer to Hanksville at **Swingarm City* or a similar location for exploring the surrounding area, with Moonscape also making a good short stay option.

The video starts at **Swingarm City**, with drone footage and views of riders climbing the surrounding hills. From there, we hike out to **Long Dong Silver**, carrying Barrett in a backpack carrier. Foggy conditions gave the hike an eerie, moody feel that actually enhanced the experience.

Next, we drive *Factory Butte Road* toward *Factory Butte* and **Moonscape Overlook**. Heavy fog initially blocked all views, but after waiting it out and having lunch, the weather cleared and revealed one of the most impressive landscapes of the trip. We let Barrett play safely away from the edge and captured some drone footage once the fog lifted.

We also make a quick stop at the *Mars Desert Research Station**, accessed via **Cow Dung Road**. An attempt to reach the **Bentonite Hills* was cut short due to high water from recent rain, and our time in *Capitol Reef National Park* was limited by steady rain.
