In 1995, in my final year of my Fine Art Sculpture degree. I began designing a range of artist bears aimed at the collectors market. With a love of both antique toys and the fantastical world of storytelling including fairy tales, I was drawn to creating one of a kind characters that took on a personality of their own with their unique personalised set of vintage belongings and specially constructed costumes.
By 1996, the very first of my Portobello Bears were sold to Stonegate Bears of York, Kensington Bears, London and Asquiths of Henley & Eton; and the rest is history in the making with every bear finding a home from Dublin to Earls Court - from Belguim to New York.
This short film illustrates my progression from early bear styles right through the many animals I have created in those 15 years by showcasing examples of the various themes and categories.
