LASER CNC MOUNT: • I Fixed the Most Annoying Part of My DIY C...
I had this old DIY CNC sitting around doing nothing… so I gave it a second life.
Since I already added a 5W laser in a previous project, I wondered: can I reuse the same 3-wire laser signal (12V, GND, PWM) to control a spindle motor instead?
In this video, I design a modular tool mount to swap the laser for a 12V DC motor
Build a super simple MOSFET PWM driver (first electronics project… don’t judge 😅)
Test it in LaserGRBL / GRBL like a “laser” (because PWM is PWM)
Try cutting balsa wood and discover the rigidity + bed leveling limits of my 8mm-rod CNC
If you want me to iterate on this idea, drop your upgrade suggestions in the comments (stiffer rods, surfaced spoilboard, Z tramming, etc.).
⚡ Electronics (what I used)
MOSFET switch driven by the CNC’s PWM output
Pull-down resistor on the gate
A flyback diode across the motor
