Back in the day, severe tendonitis in my forearms sidelined my touring career, putting a pause on everything just as my first album, Street Culture, came out on Arkadia Jazz—a project that, to my surprise, earned a Juno nomination for Best Contemporary Album. It was tough to step away from an 8-record deal with such a great label, but sometimes life has other plans.

I’ve been lucky to share stages like the Festival International de Jazz de Montreal, Yokohama Jazz Festival, and even Carnegie Hall before 2004, though I’d say the real reward was connecting with listeners and fellow musicians. After two decades of recovery, I’m back with a solo album, It’s Time, recorded on my trusty 7-foot Ibach grand piano in a little home studio I built in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Now, I’m thrilled to livestream every Saturday on this JazzMentl channel, sharing masterclasses and performances. I’ve received some kind awards over the years—like Jazz Album of the Year and Pianist of the Year—but honestly, it’s the support from fans and the chance to keep learning that means the most.
