Arthur Schnabel famously said: “The sonatas of Mozart are unique; they are too easy for children, and too difficult for artists.” What did Mozart mean when he entered this sonata in his thematic catalogue as one for beginners?
In this episode of Bach@Home you will get a quick review of the sonata form, and if you listen carefully, you will catch Mozart breaking the rules! We will review the concepts of cadence, sequence, Alberti bass, and modulation. You will also get a crash course in understanding the rondo form, and learn terms such as refrain, couplet, and coda. This mini series is dedicated to pianists and music lovers who are just beginning their musical journey.
