The Mingchi Forest Recreation Area is located in Datong Township, Yilan County, with an altitude of about 1150 to 1700 meters. There are recreational facilities such as youth activity centers, nurseries, and forest trails. The Mingchi Forest Recreation Area is full of original ecology, except for the rich forest landscape. In addition, there are frequent visitor birds, butterflies, squirrels, mandarin ducks, mallards and other animals that shuttle through the forest. In early summer, the mountains full of wild cicadas scream, composing a natural movement that fascinates tourists. Mingchi, also known as Chiduan, is a high mountain artificial lake with an altitude of about 1150 meters. It is surrounded by virgin forests and smoked all year round. The scenery is misty and graceful. It is known as the "Pearl of the North Cross". It was originally a spacious and secluded marsh pond. As a result, a closed space is formed, low temperature and humidity, clouds and fog all day long, almost no sunlight, like a dreamland fairyland; Mingchi is the highest watershed between Gaogan River and Lanyang River, and the highest point of the northern cross highway.

明池森林遊樂區位在宜蘭縣大同鄉，海拔約在1150至1700公尺間，內有青年活動中心、苗圃、森林步道等遊憩設施；明池森林遊樂區原始生態盎然充沛，除了豐富的森林景觀外，林間穿梭的常客鳥類、蝶類、松鼠、鴛鴦、綠頭鴨等動物，而每到初夏時節，滿山的野蟬齊鳴，譜出令遊客著迷的大自然樂章。明池又名池端，海拔約1150公尺的高山人工湖泊，四周原始森林密佈，終年煙嵐繚繞，景色迷濛曼妙，有「北橫明珠」的美譽，本為寬大幽邃的沼池，因地池環境所致，形成封閉空間，低溫多濕，終日雲霧迷漫，幾乎不見陽光，有如夢鄉仙境；明池為高干溪與蘭陽溪最高的分水嶺，也是北部橫貫公路的最高點。
