This video explains the ongoing demand of Ladakh for inclusion under the Sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution and the issue of Statehood for Ladakh.

After the abrogation of Article 370 (2019) and the bifurcation of Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh was made a Union Territory without a legislature. Since then, local bodies like the Leh Apex Body and Kargil Democratic Alliance have been demanding constitutional safeguards.

The demand is mainly for:

Inclusion under Sixth Schedule – which provides autonomy to tribal areas through Autonomous District Councils with legislative, executive, judicial, and financial powers (especially over land, forest, culture, and customs).

Full Statehood for Ladakh – to ensure political representation, employment rights, and resource protection.
