Complete Guide on How To Make Wood & Bone Biochar

In this demonstration, I will be primarily using bone. I start the barrels with a few layers of wood, and then transition to bone, using only a few bits of wood to keep the fire strong to prohibit excessive smoke. The process between wood and bone char is exactly the same.
This in itself is NOT biochar, but bone char. The char will now need to be inoculated and charged with nutrients to BECOME biochar.
Adding char directly into soul or gardens can be done, but it will rob the soil of nutrients, causing one to have to compensate by adding extra fertilization to the areas applied. After a season, the straight char would balance and begin to become a benefit nonetheless.
I prefer to activate my char beforehand and give it ample time to soak up all nutrients until fully saturated before using. For me, that means giving it a minimum of 2 to 4 months. In this example, this char will be activating for about 6 months before being applied to the landscape.
