Variables in Microsoft Power Automate for Desktop is a straightforward concept to grasp. Let me show you how. First, we'll cover the most common variable types: Text, Number, and List, and talk about the difference between flow variables and input/output variables.

1:02 Text variables
Using a Display message action, we show the power of variables (static vs. dynamic solution). Use the Set variable to initialize a new (text) variable. Use a variable in an action by surrounding it with percentage signs. The button clicked by the user is also stored in a variable we can work with. We can create an If action and perform actions on whether the user has pressed OK or Cancel.

An Input variable can be created and comes into our flow (ongoing argument) from, e.g., Power Automate cloud. An Output variable is similarly going out of our flow (outgoing argument).

12:50 Number variable
A number variable in Power Automate for Desktop is what it says: A number (integer or double). Use a Truncate number action to round your number: Integer part (what is before the decimal delimiter), Decimal part (what is after the decimal delimiter), and Round number (round by decimal places).

23:20 List variable
Use a List variable to store variables of the same time. Then, you can iterate through the List and perform the same action on each item (use a For each action). Pro tip: Use a Set variable action to add multiple items to a list at the same time.
