How to Find Unit Rate with Fractions 4 Ways | 7.RP.A.1 💚

In this Grade 7 math video lesson, students will learn how to find unit rates when one or both quantities are fractions — a key skill in real-world ratio reasoning and aligned with Common Core Standard 7.RP.A.1.

Students will explore 4 visual and numerical strategies to model and solve unit rate problems involving fractions:
✅ Bar Diagram
✅ Double Number Line
✅ Ratio Table
✅ Simplifying a Complex Fraction

During the lesson we will define unit rate and complex fraction, and model how to solve real world unit rate problems using each of the four methods. Students will see clear examples with one fractional quantity and with two fractional quantities.

Student engagement is built in! Students will use a Frayer Model graphic organizer to take notes and model their thinking as they practice along with the video. Great for classwork, homework, or a flipped classroom model.
