Last night on Ask the Governor
Governor Christie: So Stacey, here’s what we are going to do, I will have my office call you first thing tomorrow morning and we are going to set up a time tomorrow for you and I to go to the South Plainfield MVC and we are going to see if when I am with you, we might actually get some action here.
Today at South Plainfield MVC
Governor Christie: Good Morning.
David Matthau: You feeling enraged, angry, incensed? What is going on?
Governor Christie: I want to get something done for people.
David Matthau: What do you want the people of Jersey to know about your interaction here in the DMVC and in general?
Governor Christie: Well listen, the MVC in general has done a really good job and I think the way we have changed it to allow people for the most part not to have to come to an MVC office, do things online, be able to handle this stuff by mail or online has been really helpful and a lot of people do not have to anymore for a lot of the services that are provided. But it just shows everybody that nobody’s perfect, nothing’s perfect but you cannot settle for it not getting better so that is why I am involved.
David Matthau: You have talked a lot about MVC employees and the fact that they should look at the people come in here as customers. What is important for all MVC employees and all state employees to keep in mind?
Governor Christie: These people pay your salary. They pay for your health insurance, they pay for your retirement, these people, people like this family. And I think often times, a minority of folks who work for the state begin to feel kind of entitled and feel like these people are part of the problem not part of the people who are paying their salaries. And I think that it is important of the Governor to remind them of that. We did that at DEP and I think we have heard nothing but really good things who are interacting with DEP now, we might have to use the same program here at MVC.
Governor Christie: Part of the whole idea of the radio show, for at least the last almost seven years now, has been for me to get an idea from real New Jerseyans about what their interaction is like with their government, good and bad, and we hear both on the show. And sometimes as you know, for those of you who listen, I just instruct people to go and do things. And then other times it strikes me that I need to show up myself to send a bigger message and so that is what today was about.
