"The River" was shot entirely on my iPhone 11 Pro with the Filmic Pro app. I used a single Rode microphone and one separate light. We filmed during the pandemic, with zoom rehearsals and a socially distanced table read. Most of the filming was done outside on location in Hereford, or in my house!
This was my first ever film and it was the best fun! I wrote the script, filmed it, directed it, found the locations, sourced the props, somehow mastered the gimble, apps, and dreaded microphone. The editing was far and away the worst part. The Final Cut software was brilliant, but I could have done with another month to learn how to use it properly. If I had it to do again I would pay for a professional sound man plus equipment!
The young actors were brilliant! Everyone involved, from my step-mother who maid Elsie's costume, to my OH who stepped in to play a part and do the lighting, and my kids who helped with the filming, made it such a great experience. Felt like at least we did something good during lockdown.
