A poem for my dad, who dies suddenly in 1987 The year that I last saw you
Over thirty years ago
The day that I last saw you
You wore your work suit proudly-
It always looked like new
We talked of work and boxing
Of nothing really great
And then we turned and parted
And went our separate ways
But later in the evening
Just barely three hours on
The day that I last saw you
The day I got the call
Since then I find I miss you
More each passing day
Your sayings, so annoying,
I now find I want to say
The wisdom you had gathered
When I thought I knew it all
Well now it all makes perfect sense
But you’re not here to tell
The year that I last saw you
Twas thirty years and more
The year that I last saw you
The year I got the call
