Let's talk aboout the Bishnupriya Manipuri language.

Language:
Bishnupriya Manipuri is an Indo-Aryan language with Tibeto-Burman language features that is primarily spoken by the Bishnupriya Manipuri people in parts of Northeast India (Assam, Tripura, Manipur), Bangladesh (Sylhet Division), and Myanmar. Currently, a lot of Bengali, Hindi, and English vocabulary has been adopted, but online communities are trying to preserve the language. Though structurally Indo-Aryan, the language retains deep connections from neighboring Tibeto-Burman tongues, including lexical and phonological traces from Old Thadou, Lushei, Old Meitei, Rongmei Naga. While it incorporates vocabulary from Sanskrit and Old Manipuri (Meitei), the language also retains many unique words not found in neighboring or related languages, reflecting its mixed Indo-Aryan and Tibeto-Burman heritage and giving it a richly distinctive character. Bishnupriya Manipuri has two main dialects—Rajar Gang (the majority dialect) and Madoi Gang. It is traditionally written in the Bengali-Assamese script, but the Latin script is increasingly popular, especially among the younger generation and online communities.

People and Culture:
The Bishnupriya Manipuri people are a culturally distinct community with mixed Indo-Aryan and Tibeto-Burman heritage. The Bishnupriya Manipuris have clans, known as dapa, such as Khumeldapa, Amunggodapa, and Moiranggodapa, along with sub-clans, called lokei, like Lempalokei, Langtyalokei, and others. Their traditions blend Hindu beliefs—particularly Vaishnavism—with ancestral animist practices, including the worship of household and clan deities like Senamahi, Ema Githanok, Lamordou, and Apokpa, etc. In Myanmar, they are known as Kathe-Akkabat or simply Akkabat, where many follow Buddhism. Their cultural heritage includes traditional songs like Boron Dahanir Ela (a rain-invoking song) and Madoi-Soralel, and they celebrate festivals such as Lamor Dou Homa, Apokpa Dou Homa, Kang, Gandong, Kapokorpali, and Ningolpipali. Bishnupriya Manipuri cuisine features dishes like paltoi, khar, khoi, khudor hou, mochi, champut, and erolpa, with an emphasis on herbs and seasonal greens.
