Shri Ganeshgule temple is 6 kilometers away from Pawas village in Ratnagiri. And 28 kilometers away from Ratnagiri railway station and 22 kilometers away from Ratnagiri main ST Stand Rahtaghar bus station.

There are different legends about every temple and deity in Kokan.

One of the legends is told about the creation of this mysterious temple that earlier the village ‘Ganeshgule’ was known by the name ‘Agargule’.

The Ganpati of Ganapatipule is originally from ganeshgule village. It is said that the Ganpati of this place went to Ganapatipule one night. There is a circular notch on the lower right side of this Ganpati idol, which is also called Ganpati’s navel, earlier a stream of water used to flow from the navel of this Ganpati, and that water used to come out from the cow’s mouth on the outside of the shrine. One day, suddenly the water flow from the cow's mouth stopped and a legend spread among the villagers that the Ganapati in the gule went to the pule.

This temple is made of chira stone, which is also called Jambha Dagad.

This temple has two domes, under one dome is the shrine of Shri Ganesh and what is under the other dome is still a mystery.

This fort hidden in the dense forest of Konkan is called Purnagad.

Some of the forts in Konkan are located along the Konkan coast. They are called water forts. One of them is Purnagad.
This fort hidden in the dense forest of Konkan is not often seen. That is why this fort is called the hidden fort.

Some histories record that Sarkhel Kanhoji Angre, the head of the Marathi fleet, built Purnagad fort in 1724. The settlers here say about Purnagad fort that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj stopped the construction of the fort here. That is, the construction of forts in Swarajya came to a complete halt here. Therefore, this fort was named 'Purnagad'. Earlier, a large amount of maritime trade was done in Ratnagiri through the Gulf-Sea route. From here, trade was done with Mumbai and Calicut, which is today's Kolkata ports. To keep an eye on this, this fort was built on a hill on the north bank of the Muchkundi river. Accordingly, it is informed that this fort was built for surveillance.

Pawas is a village with enchanting natural beauty and is located 15 km from Ratnagiri. In the vicinity of the beautiful temple of Swami Swaroopanand at Pawas, there is a Dhyangunfa (meditation room) and an Emilia tree. The "Anant Niwas", which is the home of the Swami, is well maintained by the temple trust. The temple trustees celebrate many festivals like Swami's birthday, Guru Purnima etc. Many followers not only in Ratnagiri but from all parts of India believe in the teachings of the Swami.

This village is considered a major spiritual place in Ratnagiri district due to the long residence of Swami Swaroopanand alias Ramchandra Vishnu Godbole. Swami Swaroopanand was a follower of the Warkari sect.

Swami's real name was Ramchandra but he was popularly known as "Appa" or "Rambhau". He was born on 15 December 1903 in Pawas. His father's name was Shri. Vishnupant Godbole and his mother's name was Mrs. Rakhmabai was a poet. Rambhau (Appa) received his primary education in Pawas and his secondary education in Ratnagiri. In 1919, he joined the Aryan Education Society High School for higher secondary education. This school provided special spiritual and religious training.
