Building a RC Ultra4 from Start to Finish in 5 Mins, Full Version with Test Run

When I started playing RC Crawler a few years ago, I really liked metal tube chassis, especially those like the American King of Hammers racing cars.(   • Winner | JASON SCHERER | 2019 Nitto King o...  ) The actual cars fit the desert off-road and rock climbing environment, and the roughness and engine power structure attracted me even more. But the ones I could find on the market were either too expensive or I didn’t like the style, so I came up with the idea of ​​making it myself. So I bought an argon welding machine(TIG) with my friend Bruce. This is my first tube chassis that I welded by myself. In order not to be too heavy and affect the climbing ability, we chose a hollow Stainless tube (5mm). However, because the wall of the Stainless tube is very thin (1mm), we must pay special attention to avoid breaking the tube wall when welding. Since I am not very familiar with TIG welding techniques, many of the solder joints are not very beautiful, but I quite like the creative process this time. In addition, I used special solder wire to weld some positions that are not stress points. This welding method is easy to perform and the solder joints are beautiful, but it is relatively weak. It is not recommended to use this method at stress points that may be impacted or rolled over.

This tube chassis is designed based on the car of Jason Scherer, the champion of King of Hammers 2018 and 2019. The actual car is a front double A-arm and rear straight bridge design, but I don’t have double A-arm and lockable parts. (In order to take into account the ability to run and climb), the design was based on the TRX4 chassis and axles with a dual-speed gearbox and differential lock. However, when making it, I saw on the Internet that SDM The straight bridge released is more in line with the style of Ultra4, so I finally replaced it with SDM's lockable straight bridge.

The engine is a V8 engine model kit produced by MAD. I added many small homemade parts and an exhaust pipe of my own design. The body is made of 0.5mm aluminum alloy plate, and the exterior design of the real car is referenced. The water stickers and fuel tank are also made. Because I like the feeling of exposed machinery, I specially made some small parts, including oil pipes, oil filters, and pressure regulators. , power steering assist, etc.

It took me about 5 months of after-get off work time to make this car. I think the final result is pretty good, and it is also very fun to play with it!! I hope you will like it too!

幾年前開始玩遙控攀岩車時，就很喜歡金屬骨架車，特別是像美國King of hammers賽車的車型(   • Winner | JASON SCHERER | 2019 Nitto King o...  

這台骨架是參考King of hammers 2018,2019的冠軍Jason Scherer的車子去設計的，實車是前雙A臂後直橋的設計，但是由於考慮我手上沒有雙A臂而且可以鎖差的零件(為了兼顧可跑與攀爬的能力)，所以先以有雙段變速箱與可以鎖差的TRX4底盤與車橋為依據去規劃的，但是在製作的時候，在網路上看到SDM公司所發行的直橋更為符合Ultra4的風格，因此最後換成了SDM的可鎖差的直橋來使用。

引擎是MAD生產的 V8引擎模型套件，我自己加上了許多自製的小零件，再加上我自己設計的排氣管。車身使用0.5mm鋁合金板製作車殼，參考了實車的外觀設計水貼，並製作油箱，因為很喜歡機械外露的感覺，因此特別自製一些小零件，包括油管、濾油器、壓力調節器、動力轉向輔助器等。

我大概花了5個月的下班時間製作了這台車，最後成果自己覺得還不錯，實際在玩的時候也非常有趣!! 希望你們也會喜歡!
