I recently acquired a 1974 Mercedes o309 minibus with an OM314 4 cylinder diesel engine. Let's try and get this thing running after it has been sitting more than two decades.
The starting system on this bus is a commercial 12 volt/24 system. It has a 12 volt alternator but uses a 24 volt starter. This is going to require a way to rewire the batteries from a 12 volt parallel circuit to a 24 volt series circuit only during crank. This rewiring happens inside a component called a series/parallel switch and it all happens instantly when the start button is pressed.
