China's major auto manufacturer FAW (First Automobile Works) on Tuesday put into operation a new plant in Changchun City of northeast China's Jilin Province to produce new energy vehicles of its time-honored Hongqi (Red Flag) brand.
With a total investment of 7.8 billion yuan (around 1.21 billion U.S dollars), the plant is equipped with a large number of intelligent and digital means and is thus capable of making 200,000 Hongqi vehicles annually, which is expected to further support the electrification transformation of the Hongqi brand.
So far, the plant has started trial production of new energy vehicles, with mass production expected to begin in October.
"The completion of construction of the plant means that we have built a new exemplar plant for the Hongqi (Red Flag) brand family. Here we have 99 industry-leading technologies, including 138 patented ones. In the future, our new plant will produce four Hongqi models and create more than 3,000 jobs," said Dong Wei, a senior employee of FAW.
From application for construction to delivery for operation, it only took 15 months to build this new energy vehicle plant. Behind the high efficiency is the joint support of local authorities including construction, planning, land and financial departments in terms of targeted tax reduction and exemption and provision of required production factors.
From January to May, FAW maintained a good momentum of operation. It sold 1.684 million vehicles, up 31.2 percent year on year, and earned a revenue of 338.61 billion yuan (around 52.4 billion U.S. dollars), up 37.3 percent.

“工廠的建成，意味著我們為 紅旗 品牌家族建設了一座新的示範工廠。在這裡，我們擁有99項行業領先技術，其中專利138項。未來，我們的新工廠將生產四款紅旗車型，創造3000多個就業崗位。”一汽高級員工董偉說。
這座新能源汽車工廠從申請建設到交付運營，僅用了15個月的時間。高效率的背後，是地方建設、規劃、國土、財政等部門在有針對性的減免稅和提供所需生產要素方面的共同支持。
1-5月，一汽保持良好的經營勢頭。汽車銷量168.4萬輛，同比增長31.2%，實現收入3386.1億元（約合524億美元），同比增長37.3%。
