The (real) problem with Benson Boone

The internet hates Benson Boone. Music press hates Benson Boone. EVERYONE hates Benson Boone.

But... his song Beautiful Things was streamed over two billion times last year, he was nominated for a Grammy, he opened for Taylor Swift and basically headlined Coachella. If everyone hates Benson Boone, why are his songs so popular? He has millions and millions of followers – so why doesn't he have a single fan?
