Tamiya Thunder Shot 4WD 1/10 Buggy: Spring Time Run! Thunder from the 1980s!

This is the limited edition of the Tamiya Thunder Shot on a sunny spring time run! The Thunder Shot was an iconic 1/10th scale radio-controlled 4WD Buggy originally designed and released in 1987 by Tamiya. Here is the Tamiya Thunder Shot again, re-released and re-unleashed in a new running video.

This particular Tamiya Thunder Shot unit is the limited rerelease edition (58362) from 2005. Apart from the after market wing it is pretty much box art here. It even runs with the original Acoms and Tamiya 2005 electronics. The original Thunder Shot (58067) was released in november 1987.

As far as I know this was the first of the models to use this Thunder Shot 4WD chassis, which it later shared with the Tamiya Thunder Dragon (58073), Tamiya Terra Scorcher (58075) and the Tamiya Fire Dragon (58078). All four models are iconic examples of the new buggy design trend of the late 1980s, which made a shift away from the classic Frame Buggy design towards a more "space tech", "aerodynamic", "aeroplane" and "rocket" design.

That being said, I personally like the design of the Tamiya Thunder Shot very very much! I could look at it running all day long. Especially with the after market wing attached to the rear. And I must say, when having it up close and "live", it really grows on you and speaks to you.

I obtained this in a second hand trade. The buggy itself seemed more or less untouched with practically no scratches at all. Stadium Blitzer Wheels with Street Rover/Aqroshot On Road tires was mounted, indicating it perhaps only had rolled on tarmac a couple of times. The body itself seems very unused too, but sadly it is not very well made from the beginning by the original owner. A lot of overspray paint and a lot of paint now peeling off.

Luckily I didn't aquire it for the shelf, so the body is perfect for some good runs. All I have done with it is ordering some brand new tires, wheels, wheel adaptors (the original tires do not use 12 mm Hex) from Tony's Tamiya Parts, as well as a quick repaint-job of the driver Bullit Benny and parts of the cockpit. The original was painted very roughly in unorthodox colors which I simply, according to my personal and subjective taste, could not accept. So here it is, pretty much restored back to the original Tamiya Thunder Shot box art look. Hope you enjoy! I'm really in love with this one.
