This video takes a look at a Massey Ferguson/Hesston WG9740 swather/windrower cutting a nice crop of oats - to be picked up by the combines when it's dry enough.
The straw is a little green in places, but the panicle is ripe enough to cut. Much longer and the oats will start shelling and be lost to the birds. (I know - they gotta eat too)
Greenish straw can play havoc on a combine so swathing speeds up the process a little.
Spraying with a desiccant will eliminate some grain buyers from wanting the oats.
