Severn Rivers Trust have been working to establish a number of water quality testing sites along the River Sowe in Coventry. Using citizens science, this project has engaged and inspired the local community to support the water quality testing and gain a greater understanding of the challenges the water courses of the region face, as well as taking action, such as through community litter picking events.
The native White-clawed Crayfish play a crucial role in our water courses, recycling nutrients and keeping the water clean, but are currently an endangered species. Buglife and the Midlands Crayfish Partnership have been working to save the crayfish by establishing habitats and healthy populations of the crayfish across the West Midlands.
These projects have been funded through the Community Environment Fund: wmca.org.uk/communityenvironmentfund
West Midlands Combined Authority is a group of local authorities here to make the region a better place to live and work.
