How to Repair a Damaged Headliner After Airbag Deployment Part 2

In this video, I demonstrate a comprehensive process for repairing a headliner of VW GOLF 7.5 that has been damaged due to the activation of curtain airbags, restoring it to like-new condition. Instead of throwing away headliners and spending hundreds of euros on replacements, I show you an effective way to repair them.

The process begins with the removal of the old fabric from the headliner. Underneath, you'll find foam that needs to be completely removed. For this task, I used a steel wire brush with a drill, which works wonders but requires careful handling to avoid damaging the headliner shell.

Once the old material is fully stripped, I meticulously clean the surface to prepare it for the repair. Next, I treat any cracks with a filler that contains fibers, providing added strength to the repaired areas. I also use a fine-textured cement filler for a smooth finish, and then sand everything down to achieve the original shape of the headliner shell.

After I'm satisfied with the preparation, I use compressed air to blow out any debris from the headliner. I then move on to applying the original headliner material, which comes with a 2mm foam backing. I meticulously glue it piece by piece to ensure everything adheres well and stays even throughout the surface.

Once the gluing is complete, I carefully fold any excess material over the edges and cut out the necessary openings. With this, the headliner is now ready for reinstallation, which is the reverse process of the disassembly video I previously shared.
